Motorists in NSW and ACT should be aware that double demerit points will apply for 12 consecutive days during the upcoming holiday season.
When?
From 12:01 am Wednesday, 24 December 2025 until 11:59 pm Sunday, 4 January 2026, covering Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
What Does This Mean?
While fines remain unchanged, the demerit points for certain offences will be doubled, significantly increasing the risk of licence suspension or loss from a single incident.
Offences That Attract Double Demerits
- Speeding
- Illegal use of a mobile phone while driving
- Not wearing a seatbelt (or wearing it incorrectly)
- Motorcycle helmet offences
